The Ministry of Health has established strict requirements concerning dental clinics, including detailed regulatory obligations that clinic owners must comply with on a daily basis.
These requirements mainly apply to clinics performing dental treatments under inhalation sedation and/or conscious sedation.
The requirements apply to any new activity involving medical gas systems within dental clinics, including the establishment of new clinics, upgrades, or modifications to existing supply systems.
Both new and existing systems must be inspected by a certified medical gas systems inspection engineer and receive formal approval confirming that the new or existing systems do not endanger human life or health.
Below are some of the risks posed to clinic staff and patients:
- Medical gases are stored in high-pressure cylinders. Uncontrolled pressure release may cause severe injuries and significant damage.
- Oxygen and nitrous oxide are oxidizing gases that intensify fires and increase combustion rates.
- The release of gases such as nitrous oxide into an enclosed space reduces oxygen concentration in the environment and may result in asphyxiation.
- Interruption of oxygen and nitrous oxide supply to patients may cause discomfort and interruption of medical treatment.
The required inspections relate to:
- Medical gas supply piping systems and their accessories
- Oxygen and nitrous oxide cylinders
- Alarm panels
- Medical gas outlet terminals
- Anesthetic gas scavenging systems
- Dental air compressors
- Dental vacuum pumps
- Functional testing of medical gas systems
- Review of the engineering documentation file in your possession
- And additional related systems and components
As the undersigned is a certified engineer authorized to inspect medical gas systems, we hereby offer the following services for the purpose of issuing a certified engineer’s approval confirming that operation of the various systems within the clinic does not endanger human life or health:
- Inspection of existing systems in newly established clinics prior to issuance of the required approval.
- Inspection of systems in clinics that have undergone renovation, change of building designation, or similar modifications, prior to issuance of the required approval.
- Inspection of systems in existing clinics prior to issuance of the required approval.
- Annual periodic inspections.
